Where Are They? Focus On Jama Mba Robert aka Honourable

Jama Mba Robert, popularly known as Honourable, began his remarkable football journey in 1994 with Electsport Limbe. This foundational step marked the start of a career that would see him become one of the most respected figures in Cameroonian football. After a promising debut season, he made a move to city rivals Victoria United FC, where his talent continued to flourish. His ambitions then took him to the capital, Yaoundé, where he signed with the prestigious Canon Sportif Yaoundé, aka Kpa Kum. During his stint with Canon, he delivered an outstanding performance, earning recognition and establishing himself as a key player.

Following a stellar season in Yaoundé, Honourable returned to the South West Region, where he joined Mount Cameroon FC, popularly dubbed the Lava Boys. Despite a brief time with the Lava Boys, he demonstrated his exceptional skills and continued to capture the attention of football enthusiasts. Seeking to broaden his horizons, he then ventured abroad, first signing with US Bitam in Gabon. He later moved to US Oyem before heading to Tanzania to join Young Africans Club aka Yanga. His international experiences greatly enriched his footballing repertoire, providing him with insights and skills that would benefit him upon his return to Cameroon.

Upon his return, he became a vital asset for Tiko United FC, the reigning champions of Elite One, solidifying his legendary status in Cameroonian football. After more than two decades of captivating fans and establishing a legacy, Jamal decided in 2016 that it was time to gracefully hang up his boots, concluding a truly magnificent chapter in his football journey.

The Name “Honourable

According to Jamal, the name originated during his time at Elecsport of Limbe. He explained:” Honourable was initiated , propagated , promoted and made known to the public by a famous sports journalist at the time Abed Nego Messang of blessed memory ” may his soul Rest In Peace “.

Achievements

Throughout his extensive career in football, Honourable amassed an impressive collection of accolades. In 1999, he achieved a significant milestone by winning the prestigious Cup of Cameroon, alongside being named the Guinness MVP during his tenure at Canon Yaoundé. The following year, he was recognized as the Second Best Player of the Season, showcasing his consistency and excellence. His tenure with Canon Yaoundé continued to bring silverware; in 2002, he celebrated yet another championship victory, adding to his growing list of achievements.

Jama’s clinical finishing and exceptional goal-scoring ability allowed him to emerge as the Top Scorer in Cameroon’s top-flight championship in 1999, 2002, and 2011, further solidifying his reputation as one of the most prolific forwards in the league. Additionally, his talent shone on the continental stage, as he earned the title of Top Scorer in the African Cup Winners Cup in 2000.

Competitions Played

Over the course of his illustrious playing career, Honourable participated in several prestigious tournaments, including the African Cup Winners Cup, the African Champions League, and the FIFA World Cup preliminaries. Representing his nation with pride, he played multiple times for the U23 Lions and the Intermediate Lions, and he earned three senior caps with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, netting two goals in those appearances. These experiences not only showcased his talent but also his dedication to wearing the national colors.

Memories

Reflecting on his journey, Honourable shared, “The memories are so many and emotional that I can only narrate verbally.” This sentiment speaks volumes about the rich experiences and emotional moments that football has given him over the years, from thrilling victories to deep camaraderie with teammates.

Advice for the Next Generation

When advising aspiring footballers, he emphasized the importance of foundational values: “Only discipline, hard work, determination, and self-belief can make you go further and higher.” His words resonate as a reminder that success is built on a strong work ethic and an unwavering belief in oneself.

Today, the former goal poacher has transitioned into coaching and leadership within the sport. He holds the position of South West Regional Delegate for the Cameroon Footballers Syndicate (SYNAFOC) and serves as the Team Manager for Cameroon’s U23 National Team. Through these roles, he continues to contribute to the development of football in Cameroon, shaping the next generation of players and ensuring his legacy endures beyond his playing career.
